The Tarragona-Lleida high-speed line is the second high-speed line to be inaugurated in Catalonia, after the Madrid-Barcelona high-speed line.

The project consisted of the construction of 11.5 km of tunnels, 17 stations and 2 ventilation shafts. The tunnels were excavated using the mechanical-prospective tunneling method (TPM), which consists of excavating an advance tunnel with a tunnel boring machine (TBM) and building a reinforced concrete tunnel behind the TBM.

The tunnel was excavated using the mechanical-prospective tunneling method (TPM), which consists of excavating an advance gallery with a tunnel boring machine (TBM) and building a reinforced concrete gallery behind the TBM.
